“For 23 years, I purchased many workout videos that I used at home: Denise Austin, The Firm, Turbo Jam, etc. I have even purchased 3 pound, 5 pound, and 8 pound dumbbells to use with different workouts. Though I was not heavy, I was always at the upper level of the weight to height scale. I was not able to achieve “the look” I wanted. I never wanted to be considered skinny but I did want to achieve the “athletic look” which I considered healthier. At age 47, my son was getting ready to leave for college and my daughter who is 2 years younger than my son, would soon follow. I wanted to pursue getting healthy more diligently. A co-worker and friend wanted me to go to her gym for Boot Camp classes. She knew I was working out at home but thought the classes would really challenge me. I’d been doing hour videos at least 3 times per week. To my surprise, after the first class at Advanced 1 on 1 Training, I knew my videos weren’t doing their job. After completing my first Boot Camp class, I felt an adrenaline rush that I never got from my home workouts. I was hooked. At first I was only participating in classes, but wanted more. So, after only a few months of attending classes, I started with personal training sessions. At age 48 I competed in my first figure competition with the help of my trainers.
